Sati is a fundamental concept in Buddhism that refers to mindfulness or awareness. Derived from the Pali language, Sati means attentive awareness of the present moment. It is a core element of Buddhist practice, guiding individuals toward clarity, insight, and liberation from suffering.

The term Sati is prominently found in the teachings of Gautama Buddha and is a central component of the Noble Eightfold Path, specifically Right Mindfulness. In early Buddhist texts such as the Satipatthana Sutta, Sati is described as the practice of observing the body, feelings, mind, and mental phenomena with non-judgmental awareness.

Sati involves maintaining conscious attention to thoughts, emotions, and sensations without attachment or aversion. It cultivates mental clarity, emotional balance, and insight into the impermanent nature of experience. Through consistent mindfulness practice, individuals develop wisdom (paññā) and reduce suffering caused by craving and ignorance.
