Yoga For Kids Flexibility

Yoga for kids’ flexibility uses playful animal poses and imagination to improve range of motion. A 2025 study of 100 children found 10 rounds of Sun Salutations significantly improved trunk flexibility (p < 0.05). An 8-week study of 26 children practising 1-3 times weekly showed significant hamstring improvements in sit-and-reach tests (p = 0.000).

Kid-friendly poses include 

  • Butterfly for hips, 
  • Cat-Cow for spine, 
  • Cobra for chest, 
  • Downward Dog for hamstrings,
  • Happy Baby for hips and lower back.
  • Sessions should be 5-10 minutes for beginners with breaks between poses.
  • Use animal sounds, yoga dice, or safari themes to keep it fun.

Yoga helps kids build flexibility, body awareness, and confidence. As one instructor notes, “If they are moving and having a positive experience, the goal has been accomplished.” Practice together as a family and always prioritize enjoyment over perfect form.
