Yoga for Mind & Body Wellness

Yoga for mind and body wellness integrates physical postures, breathing exercises, relaxation, and meditation to harmonise mental, emotional, and physical health. Research consistently demonstrates that yoga promotes parasympathetic nervous system activation, improves emotional regulation, and reduces stress, anxiety, and depressive symptoms. A 2025 review of 65 studies found that long-term yoga practice (over 1 year) is associated with structural and functional brain changes related to sensorimotor processing, interoception (awareness of internal body states), emotion regulation, and executive functions.

  • College student anxiety (27 studies, 2,664 participants): Yoga ranked as the most effective mind-body intervention (SMD = -3.72; SUCRA = 89.0%)
  • Adolescent depression: Yoga was rated the optimal intervention (SUCRA: 82.2%), outperforming dance therapy and Tai Chi

Yoga is relatively safe, cost-effective, and accessible as a self-care behavioural treatment for maintaining health and preventing disease.
